2011 - 2012 Season Welcome!
One of our most important roles as a leading African American theatre is to maintain and stabilize a healthy black performing arts community; Penumbra cultivates new work and new artists, even as we celebrate our past with giants like James Baldwin and August Wilson. I hope these plays will embolden you to engage in dialogue and take action around issues of racism and social justice. As Wilson wrote, “to live life with dignity, to celebrate and accept responsibility for your presence in the world, is all that can be asked of anyone.” Change happens one person at a time, but it really does take a village. Carry some water.
