October 2, 2006; St.
Paul, MN: Penumbra Theatre Company, the nation’s preeminent
African American theatre, announces the addition of 14 additional performances
of Ain’t
Misbehavin--The Fats Waller Musical Show due to popular demand and a
sold out run.
The extension runs October
25 through November 5, 2006.
14 additional performance
times are:
Wednesdays at 10:00 a.m. and
7:30 p.m.
Thursdays at 7:30 p.m.
Fridays at 8:00 p.m.
Saturdays at 8:00 p.m.
Sundays at 2:00 and 7:30 p.m.
Under the direction of Patdro Harris and the musical direction of Sanford
Moore, Penumbra’s Ain’t Misbehavin’
sizzles with knock out performance from an all star cast that includes Aimee K. Bryant, Thomasina Petrus, T.
Mychael Rambo, Xavier Rice, Dennis Spears, Jevetta Steele and Austene Van. Audiences and critics alike hail this as
a must see! Local critics rave that “the
gifted quintet of misbehavin’ singers
delights with style, sass and suggestive sauce,” and that Ain’t Misbehavin’ “begins the theatre’s 30th season with
a bang.” This musical revue honors and celebrates the historic
age of rent parties, the Lindy Hop and The Charleston, bootleggers, stride
piano, and the infamous jazz legend, Thomas “Fats” Waller. During this era, it was Fats Waller and His
Rhythm (the name of his band) that ushered in a new approach to jazz piano
called “stride,” and who made history in 1942 when he became the first jazz
soloist to play Carnegie Hall. Ain’t Misbehavin’ pays tribute to his
legacy and music, and includes the ever popular songs: “The Jitterbug Waltz,”
“I’m Gonna Sit Right Down and Write Myself a Letter,” “‘T' Ain’t Nobody’s
Biz-ness If I Do,” “Honeysuckle Rose,” “Find Out What They Like,” “Your Feets
Too Big.”
